To preserve a tooth that is severely decayed or damaged, we may suggest a lifelike porcelain dental crown. Also called a dental cap, a crown fully encapsulates a tooth to protect it from further damage and help it to endure the pressure of biting and chewing. Crown placement is commonly the final step to restoring a tooth that has had a root canal, which preserves a tooth that has an infection deep inside the pulp chamber and canals.
Porcelain veneers are like a facelift for your teeth. They are extremely thin ceramic shells that are thoughtfully shaped and colored to look like the teeth you’ve always wanted. They’re not only able to hide many imperfections, but the quality of the material can actually help increase the strength of the bite as well.
With time, our teeth become stained and discolored from foods, beverages, tobacco products, and even some medications. Fortunately, there is teeth whitening. River Family Dentistry relies on the Opalescence system for rapid and effective teeth whitening.
Did you know there was a way to make your teeth look larger and brighter without touching your tooth enamel? Sometimes, your gums cover too much of your tooth and cause it to look short and misshapen. There is a simple cosmetic procedure using a soft tissue laser that can remove excess gum tissue and expose more of your teeth, revealing a smile that is bigger and brighter than you even realized you had.
Getting the smile you love shouldn’t be awkward. With clear aligners like Invisalign, you can get the results you want in as little as 6 months. They are more comfortable and less painful than braces and you can take them out when you need to! Straightening your teeth has never been this easy.
Even if you brush and floss twice a day, you can still develop a cavity. Left untreated, tooth decay can spread and create significant oral health problems, as well as pain. When a cavity strikes, we prefer to place a composite resin filling rather than metal/amalgam filling. Tinted to match your tooth’s color, a composite filling will blend with your tooth enamel, so your all-white smile remains intact.
We recommend that patients of all ages have a checkup and cleaning every six months. At these appointments, we will examine your teeth, gums, jaw, bite, and existing dental restorations looking for any signs of decay or damage. If anything is discovered, we will spend some time discussing our findings and your potential options for treatment. We believe the most powerful and meaningful thing we can do is educate our patients.
Children have their own unique set of dental needs, and at our practice, River Family Dentistry is more than happy to meet them. We go out of our way to ensure that our little patients remain comfortable from check-in to checkout, and we have a number of kid-friendly services that are perfect for developing smiles. We even take time during appointments to teach children about the basics of dental care so they will form healthy habits that will serve them well into adulthood.
Dr. Maryna Goergy is a certified HealthyStart® Provider, a program she's seen change the lives of children and their families. Sadly, almost 90% of children exhibit at least one symptom of Sleep Disordered Breathing. This affects their mental and physical development, focus, behavior, and overall health. Often, these symptoms are misdiagnosed as ADD, ADHA, Seasonal allergies, Asthma, Anxiety, and so much more. HealthyStart® has been doing research and offering treatment to children for decades to help these kids develop properly from a young age, growing them into healthy adults.
The teeth towards the back of the mouth are actually the most vulnerable to developing cavities. Their rough and pitted surfaces easily trap plaque and bacteria, plus they can be quite tricky to clean as well (especially for young children). Fortunately, we can use something called a dental sealant to give these teeth some extra protection. We simply apply a plastic-based liquid to them, and it quickly hardens into an invisible barrier that cavity-causing agents cannot cross.
Bruxism is a very common problem where someone unconsciously grinds their teeth while they sleep, which can slowly wear down the teeth to the point that they will actually break! To help patients with this issue rest easy, we encourage them to wear a nightguard to bed. This is a small, custom-made oral appliance. It places a firm but comfortable barrier between the rows of teeth that prevents them from coming together during the night.
Oral cancer is an often fatal disease that needs to be detected early in order to ensure successful treatment, but its initial symptoms can be very easy to miss, leading many to go undiagnosed until it is quite advanced. To keep our patients protected, we perform an oral cancer screening at every checkup using the VELscope light. This device causes potentially cancerous cells that would normally be invisible to the naked eye to illuminate, enabling us to find the disease as soon as possible.
Does going to the dentist make you or your child feel anxious? If so, you’re far from alone, and we’re ready to help you overcome those nerves with gentle nitrous oxide sedation. All a patient has to do is breathe in the colorless, odorless gas through a small nasal mask to achieve a complete sense of mental and physical relaxation. Even better, once an appointment is over and the mask is removed, the gas’ effects wear off almost immediately, enabling a patient to go straight back to their day.
You have several choices for tooth replacement, but one of the most lifelike is a dental implant. An implant is a titanium post that is surgically positioned in your jawbone beneath the socket of your missing tooth. With time, this biocompatible post bonds with your bone tissue. The foundation that results from this bond is as strong as that between a natural tooth root and your jawbone. When you’ve healed, we will place a custom-crafted crown on top of the post.
